A Day To Be Together

by Ariel Robyn

This isn't a poem.. not really. it's just sorta a free write I did when my dad and I went to my first football game.

The day has dawned,
Excitement tangible around her as she waits.
Classes blur by so fast,
She can't recall a single thing that happened.
Finally, she finds herself leaving.
They are driving, further than normal,
They enthusiasm overwhelming the small car.
They cannot wait.
She bounces in her seat,
Biting her lip as she sees them approach.
There is a line but it hardly matters.
In their hurry,
They've arrived four hours early.
It doesn't matter they'll have to wait.
They' are excited.
She dances on black ground,
Her body tingling in anticipation.
She's ready.
He buys them food and shirts.
Their support is clear now.
Finally, oh Finally, it's time to go in.
She is awed at the size of it.
Overwhelmed at how close they are.
Thrilled at the sight of them warming up.
They are so close, she can see his eyes as they scan the area.
They lock eyes a moment, she grins and he nods back in appreciation.
Their connection is severed.
The smell sweat surrounds her.
She hardly notices.
Beer stains her back,
Making her smell like a bar.
She can't care less.
Men are fighitng in front of her
She ignores them.
She's completley focused on whats in front of her.
Just her and her father,
enjoying a day to be together.

Monday night football, oh how I love you. :D
